Description
History: The crews of the Wehrmacht, the main armed forces of Nazi Germany during World War II, played a crucial role in the expansion and execution of military operations on many fronts. The Wehrmacht included the army (Heer), the air force (Luftwaffe), and the navy (Kriegsmarine). Wehrmacht soldiers were often deployed in harsh conditions, from freezing winters on the Eastern Front to scorching deserts in North Africa.
In tank operations, Wehrmacht crews fought in legendary machines such as the Panzer IV, Panther, and especially the heavy Tiger I, which became synonymous with German armored strength. German tank commanders, known as tank aces, such as Michael Wittmann and Kurt Knispel, gained fame for their impressive combat achievements. Wittmann, renowned for his masterful use of the Tiger I, became famous during the Battle of Villers-Bocage in 1944, while Knispel was regarded as one of the most successful tankers of the war, with over 160 enemy tanks destroyed.
